FIBA Americas Under-20 Championship

Short History

     The FIBA Americas Under-20 Championship was a men's under-20 international basketball competition that is governed by FIBA Americas. Countries from Northern America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America competed in this tournament. The first edition was held in 1993, in Argentina, as the Championship of the Americas for Men 22 and Under. The 2000 edition was played by under-21 teams and was renamed to the Championship of the Americas for Young Men. For the next and last edition, in 2004, it was renamed again to FIBA Americas Under-20 Championship and was played by under-20 teams. It was contested quadrennially and served as the qualification tournament for the FIBA Under-21 World Championship, for the FIBA Americas region.
