FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship

Short History

     The FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship is a men's under-18 international basketball competition that is governed by FIBA Americas. Countries from Northern America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America compete in this tournament. The first edition was held in 1990, in Uruguay, as the Championship of the Americas for Junior Men. From the start to 2002 the championship was contested quadrennially and it was played by under-19 teams. From the 2006 edition it is contested biennially and the championship is played by under-18 teams. It serves as the qualification tournament for the FIBA Under-19 World Cup, for the FIBA Americas region. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
